I have felt a sense of anticipation this week as I have been preparing for our time together this Sunday. In almost 5 years of pastoring, I have avoided preaching a message about the biblical teaching of tithing. Lately, I have sensed the Lord leading me to spend time on this important topic.
The Church has a bad rap for how this topic has been approached. Many people who have been hurt by the church have expressed their feelings about how it feels like the Church is only interested in money, and how the Church often uses God to guilt people into giving money.
This Sunday I want to take a deep dive into Jesus' thinking about money...His perspective is what we are after in every area of life is it not?
In preparation for our time together take some time to read Luke 20:45-47 and keep reading the first four verses of the next chapter: Luke 21:1-4. Luke 21:1-4 are often taught and read as separate from Luke 20:45-21...but the context of 20:45-21 is vitally important in understanding what Jesus has to say in 21:1-4. Spend some time reading, reflecting, and praying this weekend.
