At the end of chapter 14, the disciples leave the Upper Room and in high probability travel through and even stop for a rest in a grape vineyard. It is here that Jesus delivers his famous vineyard discourse where he says, “I am the vine, you are the branches”.
In this deep talk, Jesus sheds light on what God expects and desires of his disciples. He
also re-emphasizes what is most important.
Dig deep and give some thought to these questions:
- In the Old Testament, the grapevine symbolizes the nation of Israel and the Jewish people. What
does Jesus mean when He says He is the true vine? What are the implications for us? - Who is Jesus referring to when talking about abiding in the vine? What does it mean? Who is he referring to when speaking of the person who does not abide in the vine? What are those implications?
- What is the role of Father God in this deep talk with Jesus? What are the implications for us?
