Be A BereanSermon on the Mount Words are powerful. We use words to communicate ideas and share common interests during the course of everyday life. Words can be to tear down or to inspire. Leaders have the job to communicate clearly. Some leaders' words stand out. One such leader is Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was an American president that was remembered for his leadership, and his outspoken resistance to the slave trade during the civil war. During this divisive time, Lincoln penned the famous speech the “Gettysburg Address”. This became one of the most impactful speeches in human history due its timing and inspirational nature. Lincoln was known as being honest and forthright as a lawyer before he went into politics. The reason he is so well respected was for many reasons, but it seemed that the life he was advocating for, was one he sought to live personally. The “Sermon on the Mount” is one of the most impactful sermons to ever be preached. It was impactful because of the words that were said but more importantly who said them. Through these words, Jesus shared radical points on Mosaic law that would have challenged the status quo of that day. This week, we are starting a new series that is going to walk through Matthew chapter five to seven and examine these roughly 2500 words that Jesus spoke. Read Matthew 5-7 in preparation. This is a passage of Scripture that you will study your whole life. It will never cease to challenge, convict and encourage. Looking forward to worshipping with you! |
