Easter Plans
Easter is fast approaching! We are joining with Evangel Church and Refreshing Waters Community Church and look forward to celebrating and worshipping together on this most significant of weekends. Be A BereanAdultery & Divorce “High sticking!!” If you’re a hockey fan you will know that this call is one that has caused much controversy. The rule says that if a player has his stick above their head and contacts the puck, the play of the game stops and there will be a faceoff to resume play. Simple enough right…….. Wrong Nothing is simple when you have video review. Different camera angles, and different perspectives make it hard to make the “right call”. The standard is set in the NHL rule book but it can be difficult to make the call that pleases everyone. This doesn’t take away the importance of the rule, but it can become a point of tension if this effects a team winning or losing. The call is simple, but in reality it is sometimes hard to come to an agreement.
Jesus spoke on controversial and complex topics during the sermon on the mount. Topics that were widely debated in the Jewish culture. Jesus’ mission was not to make everyone agree with him, but instead to expose the condition of the human heart. What continues to be true about Jesus, is that even in his most difficult teachings, we see him advocate for those that are oppressed and lift the standard of holiness that is less about legalistic behavior and more the transformation of the human heart.
